Sammanfattning
Summary The current increasing global climate change raises demands for better understanding greenhouse gases and its origins. Lakes emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere as a part of the carbon cycle, but how the CO2 emissions vary spatially and temporally within lakes, are not well known. This study seeks to investigate long-term spatial and seasonal variations in CO2 emissions in a boreal Swedish lake at Skogaryd, with automatic chambers. The chambers have a CO2 sensor that will generate data on CO2 partial pressure (pCO2) and CO2 flux with high time resolution, and have never been full-scale tested before. Chambers will be placed stratified random on lake surface, as in previous studies with regards to depth, distance to shore and centre. These chambers will measure long-term pCO2 from May to December. Every third week CO2 fluxes will be measured with additional chambers, and complementary variables will be measured in order to seek correlations and explanations for CO2 variations. Parallel studies on methane emissions from the lake and its aquatic plants will be combined with CO2 data. This will be a unique opportunity to reveal whole-lake greenhouse gas variations. Samples and data will be analysed at TEMA, Linköping University.
